Come
and Participate in the Global Youth Service Day
Between the 16th and 18th of April, millions of young people
from around the world will celebrate what is called “Global Youth
Service Day” (GYSD), but what is actually a week-end set aside
to show care, concern and commitment to the communities in which
we live through volunteering efforts. The purpose of this annual
event is to help young people identify and address the needs
of their communities through service, to help recruit the next
generation of volunteers and to educate the public about the
role of young people as community leaders through their volunteer
efforts. Having received the endorsement of international bodies,
including the United Nations, the World Bank, the International
Youth Parliament and the International Youth Foundation, it is
a great honour for The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups to
be chosen as the local lead agency for GYSD this year.
Instead of limiting our activities to the weekend of 16-18 April
however, the Federation, through its Youth Volunteer Network
(VNET) is planning to mobilise more than 5,000 young volunteers
to carry out a series of community services for the entire month
of April.
We call upon our partners to either join in as volunteers or
help sponsor the activities that have been planned. These will
include visits to the underprivileged, educational and promotional
activities to remind the public about the importance of public
and personal hygiene, as well as fundraising campaigns for the
needy. We need your help and we encourage you to join in this
global volunteering event. For more information, please click here
